Focus on New Technologies: Pricenow Inspires with Guest Lecture at FH Graubünden
Not only in the sector itself, but also from research, universities and prospective tourism professionals. As a key speaker, Pricenow presented the DSS presentation by the Graubünden University of Applied Sciences on the topic “Dynamic Pricing and Data Analytics — First Insights into a New Era for Mountain Railways.”
With 220 people in attendance, the auditorium of the Grisons University of Applied Sciences was filled to the last place for Pricenow's guest presentation. A new record high for the Distinguished Speaker Series, which is regularly organized by the Grisons University of Applied Sciences and provides a platform for “the most innovative and out-of-the-box thinking guest speakers from the tourism sector.” In front of an audience full of up-and-coming talent, Pricenow discussed the topic of dynamic pricing and data analytics in the mountain railway sector together with aspiring tourism managers and lecturers.
Together with David Wyssen (CEO, Sportbahnen Bellwald), the current challenges of the mountain railway industry were first addressed and then possible solutions through dynamic pricing and data analytics were presented.
It was emphasized that dynamic pricing is only one possible form of price differentiation and that the price management of a mountain railway should be viewed holistically. In addition, the hosts and Pricenow agreed that the topic of customer knowledge and data analytics will include at least as important an aspect of future industry development. David Wyssen was able to provide exciting insights into the results of the last winter season: With dynamic prices, it was possible to increase the online share of ski ticket bookings from 0% to just under 30% within one winter season and also significantly increase the average yield for various product categories. Wyssen and Bellwald Sportbahnen AG have now been able to successfully incorporate the generated customer knowledge into innovative digitization and marketing measures.
We were overwhelmed by the number of interested students and lecturers who inspired us to discuss with exciting questions. However, all participants agreed on one point: the new technologies in the area of pricing and data analytics will usher in a new era for mountain railways.
